Collemeluccio State Oriented Biogenetic Nature Reserve

Description

The Collemeluccio Reserve is formed by an important nucleus of white fir trees and only in part by meadows pastures located on the edge of the forest. It is a white fir wood wreck, formerly widespread on the whole Apennine ridge. In addition to being the State Oriented Nature Reserve, it constitutes, together with the nearby nucleus of Montedimezzo, one of the Biosphere Reserves, precisely called MaB (Man and Biospher) and established by UNESCO together with four others in Italy. Labete bianco is the dominant forest species and is pure at medium altitudes, in association mainly with Turkey oak and tattered at lower altitudes and with beech beyond 800 meters.
In the Reserve there are several species of mammals typical of the Apennines, such as the fox, the hare, the badger, the weasel, the marten and some species of bats. Among the birds there are, in addition to the most common strigiform and passerine, some birds of prey such as the biancone and the honey buzzard.
